Oak Coffee Table
A Wedding Memory, Built Into Everyday Life
The Commission
Every bespoke commission begins with a conversation, and this one was unlike any other.
The client had carefully kept the engraved slate from their wedding day for over ten years. Originally used as part of the food display at their wedding reception, it had remained safely stored under the stairs, too meaningful to throw away but without a place in their home.
Their brief was simple: create a handcrafted coffee table that would not only suit their living space but also give this treasured keepsake a new purpose. The engraved slate, bearing their surname and wedding date, needed to become the heart of the design rather than just an ornament.
The result is a solid European oak coffee table that combines timeless craftsmanship with personal history, transforming a cherished memory into a piece of furniture the family can enjoy every day.

Designed for Everyday Living
Behind the clean, timeless appearance is a layout designed with practicality in mind. Two spacious drawers provide discreet storage for everyday essentials, while the full-width lower shelf offers additional space for books, baskets or decorative pieces.
Every element was carefully proportioned to maximise functionality without compromising the table's balanced, handcrafted design.
A Lasting Legacy
With the final coat of Rubio Monocoat applied and the original wedding slate seamlessly inlaid, the vision became reality. What began as a treasured keepsake, carefully stored away for years, is now the centrepiece of the family's home.
Handcrafted from solid European oak, the finished coffee table balances timeless design with everyday practicality, creating a bespoke piece that celebrates both exceptional craftsmanship and lasting memories.
The Result
Every bespoke piece is built from the inside out. Before the tabletop and signature slate inlay were fitted, the internal framework was carefully assembled to ensure exceptional strength, precise alignment and lasting durability.
Constructed entirely from solid European oak, each component was individually machined, fitted and refined by hand. The twin drawer compartments, full-width lower shelf and structural framework were all designed to create a piece that is as practical as it is beautiful.
While much of this craftsmanship is hidden once the table is complete, it forms the foundation of furniture designed to be enjoyed for generations.
Engineering
Precision in Every Detail
Each drawer was individually fitted to achieve smooth operation and consistent, even gaps. Built from solid European oak and mounted on Blum concealed undermount runners, the drawers open effortlessly while keeping the hardware completely hidden from view.
The result is a clean, uninterrupted appearance paired with the smooth, reliable action expected from high-quality bespoke furniture. It's these carefully considered details that elevate a functional coffee table into a piece designed to be enjoyed for generations.
Finished Piece
Designed for Generations
Every detail was considered with longevity in mind. From the softly rounded edge profile and flowing grain to the precision-fitted joinery and carefully selected hardware, each element contributes to a piece that is both beautiful and built to last.
Crafted to become part of everyday family life, this coffee table is designed to be enjoyed today and treasured for generations to come.
What began as a treasured wedding keepsake has been transformed into a handcrafted coffee table designed for everyday life. Built from solid European oak and centred around the original engraved slate, the finished piece brings together timeless craftsmanship, thoughtful design and a story that will continue to be shared for generations.
Every commission is unique, but the goal remains the same: to create furniture that is as meaningful as it is beautifully made.
